Tasmanian Collection Service (TCS) respects your privacy and we undertake to maintain high standards to protect it. We recognise and accept our obligations under the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles and in accordance with section 1.3 of the Australian Privacy Principles have outlined our policy on how we handle your personal information.
Why TCS collects your personal information
Tasmanian Collection Service is a mercantile agent and acts as an agent for our clients. We will collect information about you for the primary purpose of collecting debts, and other related services.
How TCS collects your personal information
Tasmanian Collection Service collects personal information from various sources. These may include, from you personally, from our clients and the businesses we deal with, from a credit provider, someone authorised to act on your behalf, field agents, an employer, a third party service provider, and from publicly available information such as the Magistrates Court, or Australian Financial Security Authority. Tasmanian Collection Service will not collect personal information about you unless it is necessary for one of our functions or business activities. The information will be collected by lawful and fair means and not in an unreasonable intrusive way.
What kind of information will TCS collect
Tasmanian Collection Service will collect a range of personal information, depending on the purpose for which it is collected. Such information may include but is not limited to, your name, address, contact details, employment history, bankruptcy and debt agreement and insolvency information.
TCS will take all reasonable steps to ensure that any personal information held about you is complete, up to date, and not misleading.
How TCS holds your personal information
TCS understands the security of your personal information is important, so we take steps to protect your information from misuse, unauthorised access, loss, interference or unauthorised modification.
TCS holds your personal information in a secure database. We may also hold electronic and hard copies of documents containing personal information (e.g., queries, complaints, requests for information and other relevant documents).
Any personal information held by TCS electronically can only be accessed by our authorised staff using personal accredited passwords.
Information held in hard copy is stored securely and only retained for a reasonable time, as necessary.
We only hold and use personal information for purposes directly related to our functions or activities or for the purposes for which the information was originally collected.

Tasmanian Collection Service has all reasonable standards of technology and operational security to protect all information retained by us. All reasonable steps are taken to ensure that personal information is held secure from unauthorised access.
Who has access to your information
Tasmanian Collection Service will collect, hold, use and disclose your personal information for the lawful purpose of collecting debts and for carrying on our various business activities.
Personal information is used and disclosed for the purposes for which it was collected or a directly related purpose or where you have consented to the use or disclosure.
How you may access information held by us
You are entitled to access information we hold about you under Australian Privacy Principle 12.1
You may request access to your personal information by completing the Personal Information Record application form. You must provide a copy of your drivers licence or other suitable identification to verify your identity. The application form is available on this website or by contacting TCS.
We will provide you with a copy of your Personal Information Record within 21 days of your request. Where you require this information immediately, a reasonable fee will apply. Where you require regular updates of information we hold, you can subscribe to this service and we will advise you of any changes made to your Personal Information Record each month. A fee applies for this service.
In certain circumstances we are permitted to limit access to your personal information. If this happens, we will inform you of the reasons.
Requesting correction of your personal information
We aim to keep your personal information accurate and up to date. If information we hold about you is incorrect we can promptly correct this. You can use the Contact Us section of our website, you can phone us, or you can visit us at any one of our locations.
Making a Complaint
If you have any concerns about how we manage your personal information we ask that you speak with us first. Our complaints procedure will ensure it is followed up promptly. Dispute Resolution
