2545 new personal insolvencies in the March quarter 2021, these were down 52.9% compared to March quarter 2020. These were comprised of:
- 1712 bankruptcies, down 47.3%
- 816 debt agreements, down 61.4%
- 17 personal insolvency agreements, down 55.3%
97% of bankruptcies were by debtor’s petition (voluntary). The remaining bankruptcies were by sequestration order (involuntary).
30.8% of bankruptcies were business related, down from 37.3% in the March quarter 2020.
The number of personal insolvencies rose 5.8% compared to the December quarter 2020.
State and territory levels
Personal insolvency fell 52.9% compared to the March quarter 2020.
State and territory figures will not necessarily sum to the national total. If multiple debtors in the same state or territory enter into a joint administration, they are only included once in these figures.
